HS: Spring state, region rankings, May 14
State champions were crowned in five states over the weekend, and the net ranking result was three state No. 1s changing hands in girls soccer.
Meanwhile, the four previous boys state No. 1s -- Homewood (Ala.), Westminster Schools (Ga.), Tulsa Union (Okla.) and Wando (S.C.) -- won state titles to secure their lofty state, region and national rankings.
On the girls side, Vestavia Hills (Ala.), which spent much of the season ranked No. 2 in Alabama, inherited the top spot after winning the 7A state title. Marist School (Ga.) moved up to No. 1 after capturing the Georgia AAAA crown. J.L. Mann (S.C.) stunned the top two seeds en route to the South Carolina 5-A title. Broken Arrow (Okla.) was the only girls No. 1 team from last week to win a state championship.
The week's other state titles wre contested in the Utah small-school bracket, which did not affect the state rankings.
This week, Arkansas, Nebraska and Wyoming will crown state champs, as well as North Carolina's girls independent schools.
