HS: Spring state, region rankings, May 4
The revolving door at No. 1 in several girls spring-playing states continues this week with six new teams taking over the top spots.
This week's changes come on the heels of six new No. 1s a week earlier.
Naperville North (Naperville, Ill.), which was No. 3 in Illinois, played its way into the state No. 1 position and back into the SIMA FAB 50 title chase by taking out former state No. 1 New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.) and No. 2 Barrington (Barrington, Ill.), which were both undefeated, to win the Naperville Invitational. Other new state No. 1s this week are Grandville (Grandville, Mich.), Panther Creek (Cary, N.C.), Grandview (Aurora, Colo.), Iowa City West (Iowa City, Iowa) and Waukesha West (Waukesha, Wis.).
On the boys side, there was not a single change at No. 1 in any spring-playing state. However, there were a few results that will alter the look of the next SIMA FAB 50. Cosby (Midlothian, Va.) avenged its only loss to previously undefeated James River (Midlothian, Va.) 1-0 in a meeting of No. 2- and 3-ranked teams in Virginia. A rash of ties by highly ranked Tennessee teams led to a slight reshuffling of the state Top 5, as well.
