HS: State, Region rankings, Aug. 22
In the few weeks since the release of the preseason state, region and SIMA FAB 50 rankings, very little has changed.
The only new state No. 1s are Canton (Mich.), Weddington (N.C.) boys and Penn (Ind.) girls. Penn is the only new region No. 1 this week. Of course, most of the non-movement can be attributed to the fact that less than a third of the fall-playing states have actually started regular season.
Action really starts to heat up this week as most of the SIMA FAB 50 Top 25 boys teams will be playing season-opening matches.
The seven region No. 1 teams for fall-playing girls soccer are Whitman-Hanson (Mass.) in the Northeast, Northern Highlands (N.J.) in N.J./N.Y., McDonogh School (Md.) in the Mid-Atlantic, Walsh Jesuit (Ohio) in Ohio, Penn in the Mid-East, Issaquah (Wash.) in the Northwest and Davis (Utah) in the West.
The seven region No. 1 teams for fall-playing boys soccer remain La Salle Academy (R.I.) in the Northeast, St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.) in the East, McDonogh School (Md.) in the Mid-Atlantic, St. Ignatius (Ohio) in the Great Lakes, Morton (Ill.) in the Mid-East, Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.) in the Midwest and Albuquerque Academy (N.M.) in the West.
