HS: Weekend Wrap, region rankings, April 22
The winter high school season finally drew to a close Saturday night in dramatic fashion.
Flower Mound (Texas), which spent time at FAB 50 No. 1 early in the season, edged San Antonio LEE in a shootout following a scoreless match for the Texas 6A boys crown, completing a state title sweep for Texas-North programs.
From the greater DFW, Flower Mound boys, Southlake Carroll in 6A girls, Highland Park in 5A girls and Stephenville in 4A girls won titles, along with El Paso-area teams Bel Air in 5A boys and [San Elizario tx-m] in 4A boys.
Southlake Carroll's 5-0 thrashing of Tompkins in the girls 6A final puts the finishing touches on a 28-1-2 season, moves the Dragons to No. 1 in the final state rankings and will result in a new FAB 50 No. 1 for the final winter poll on 2019.
The way the schedule set up in 2019 is the latest that Texas champions can be crowned, thus bringing a close to the winter season. Meanwhile, the first spring playoffs start this week in Georgia.
