HS: Winter FAB 50 rankings, Dec. 11

Just as expected, a handful of regional tournaments had a major impact in this week's FAB 50.

BOYS

COLLEGE CUP SHOWCASE: Mira Costa (Calif.), Bellarmine Prep (Calif.) and De La Salle ca-m] (Calif.) were the big winners, going 3-0 at the College Cup Showcase in Santa Barbara. All three teams move into the FAB 50 Top 20 this week. Top-ranked Loyola (Calif.) also went 3-0 at the event to retain its No. 1 ranking. Meanwhile, fomer Top 5-ranked Brophy Prep (Ariz.) and Santa Barbara (Calif.) slipped after a combined 0-4-2 showing.

GIRLS

WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT: Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.) and Montverde Academy (Fla.) were the highest ranking FAB 50 teams at the event, and both delivered. McCarthy and Montverde Academy both beat St. Johns Country Day (Fla.), the team that was ranked No. 1 by the United Soccer Coaches. McCarthy ended St. Johns Country Day's win streak at 76 matches and Montverde followed with a win over the small-school power the following night.

BUTCH LEE MEMORIAL GIRLS SOCCER TOURNAMENT: Mater Dei (Calif.) edged Torrey Pines (Calif.) on a last-minute goal to snag the tournament title. This event fetures many of the top projected teams in San Diego and southern California.

ALISO CUP: Los Alamitos (Calif.) and Aliso Niguel (Calif.) advanced to the final of this annual powerhouse event.

BIG MOVERS: BOYS: De La Salle (Concord, Calif.). De La Salle vaulted from No 41 to No. 17 this week after a 3-0 showing at the College Cup Showcase. ... GIRLS: California (San Ramon, Calif.). A perfect run through the Madera Showcase helped California vault from No. 38 to No. 16 in this week's FAB 50.

GIRLS: No. 20 Dublin (Calif.), No. 21 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), No. 42 Mission Viejo (Calif.), No. 43 Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.), No. 44 Kamehameha-Kapalama (Honolulu, Hawaii), No. 46 Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.), No. 47 Newport Harbor (Newport Beach, Calif.) and No. 50 Venice (Fla.).
