HS: Winter FAB 50 rankings, Jan. 23

There are just a few teams with the talent, the schedule and the results that can justify a national No. 1 ranking.

And as of today, just about each of them has taken a turn at No. 1.

A pair of ties by last week's FAB 50 No. 1s allow for new teams to grace the top of the rankings this week. On the boys side, McKinney Boyd (McKinney, Texas) gets its crack at the top after seven straight shutout wins to start the season. On the girls side, St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park, Fla.), powered by a 63-match win streak this year against an upgraded schedule, moves into No. 1.

As past weeks have shown, stays at No. 1 have been shortlived this season. Four boys teams and three girls teams have spent time in the top spot, and while none have loss, it's the collection of ties that have kept thoe teams rotating positions every week.

BIG MOVERS: BOYS: Chandler (Ariz.). Chandler and recent FAB 50 No. 1 Brophy Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) entered their meeting with undefeated records, and walked away undefeated following a 1-1 draw. That result helped Chandler vault from No. 42 last week to No. 11 this week. ... GIRLS: Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.). Mitty jumped from No. 19 to No. 10 this week following a pair of wins by this perennial NorCal power. The team's only loss this season is to No. 3 Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.).

NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 29 Mission (San Francisco, Calif.), No. 36 Northwest Rankin (Flowood, Miss.), No. 39 Sunny Hills (Fullerton, Calif.), No. 40 [Valencia/Placentia ca-m] (Placentia, Calif.), No. 41 Canyon Crest Academy (San Diego, Calif.), No. 42 Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.), No. 47 Galt (Calif.). ... GIRLS: No. 39 Klein Oak (Spring, Texas), No. 42 Perry (Gilbert, Ariz.), No. 43 Cypress (Calif.), No. 44 Warren (Downey, Calif.), No. 45 Esperanza (Anaheim, Calif.), No. 46 Cypress Bay (Weston, Fla.), No. 47 Kingwood (Texas), No. 48 Coppell (Texas), No. 50 Pearland (Texas).
