HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50 Dec. 27
Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) is the lone newcomer to this week's girls SIMA FAB 50 in an otherwise quiet week for high school girls soccer.
Most ranked teams in Arizona, Florida, Mississippi were idle last week, and play has yet to begin for the Texas public schools. The lack of contests led to a stagnant week for the rankings.
On the boys side, there were a few significant changes as South Torrance (Torrance, Calif.) and Northwest Rankin (Flowood Miss.) made major jumps following key victories. South Torrance defeated regionally ranked opponents Millikan (Long Beach, Calif.) and Palos Verdes (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) for the second time this season to win the South Torrance Tournament and extend the team's perfect run. Meanwhile, in a clash between the Southeast No. 1 and 2 teams, No. 2 Northwest Rankin toppled No. 1 St. Paul's (Covington, La.), marking the first time St. Paul's has lost to a Southeast region opponent since November 2012.
BIG MOVERS: BOYS: South Torrance (Torrance, Calif.). South Torrance again, jumping from No. 34 to No. 11, marked the biggest jump in the rankings for the second straight week. ... GIRLS: Quartz Hill (Calif.). In a week where 49 of 50 teams remained the same, Quartz Hill's four-spot move from No. 31 to No 27 was the biggest jump among the ranked teams for the week.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 42 Galt (Calif.), No. 43 Folsom (Calif.), No. 47 Miami Edison (Miami, Fla.), No. 49 Palm Harbor University (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and No. 50 Douglas (Parkland, Fla.). ... GIRLS: No. 29 Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.).
