HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50, Jan. 26
BIG MOVERS -- BOYS: [Tucson az-m] (Ariz.). Tucson moves from No. 38 to No. 14 this week following a 3-1 win over perennial state title challenger Salpointe Catholic (Tucson, Ariz.). Tucson has 12 shutouts in 15 matches and likely will earn a top seed in the upcoming state playoffs. GIRLS: [Westwood tx-w] (Austin, Texas). Westwood moved from No. 27 to No. 8 this week, primarily powered by the team's 1-0 win over defending state champion Coppell (Texas). Few Austin teams have ever defeated any of the Dallas-Fort Worth-area powers, so Westwood's victory was noteworthy. Not to mention, it keeps Westwood perfect through six matches this season.
NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 30 Byron Nelson (Trophy Club, Texas), No. 41 McNeil (Austin, Texas), No. 42 Fountain Valley (Calif.), No. 43 [Valencia/Valencia ca-m] (Valencia, Calif.), No. 44 Chaffey (Ontario, Calif.), No. 45 Beckman (Irvine, Calif), No. 46 Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.), No. 47 Tampa Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.), No. 48 [Sam Houston tx-] (Arlington, Texas) and No. 49 Lake Travis (Austin, Texas). GIRLS: No. 39 Hendrickson (Pflugerville, Texas), No. 46 La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.), No. 47 Villa Park (Calif.) and No. 50 Desert Vista (Phoenix, Ariz.).
LOOKING AHEAD: BOYS: No. 8 Palo Alto (Calif.) faces No. 14 Homestead (Cupertino, Calif.) in the second league meeting between the ranked teams. Palo Alto's earlier win over Homestead vaulted the team into the SIMA FAB 50 Top 25. Another win could push this team closer to a Top 5 ranking. GIRLS: Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) carries an undefeated record into this week's league clash with No. 42 San Clemente (Calif.)
