HS: Winter, Spring FAB 50, March 13
The inaugural NorCal Regional Championships did nothing more than confirm the top teams.
Meanwhile, the SoCal Regional Championships allowed the Southern Section to flex its muscle.
The two events bring to a close the California winter season, leaving only Texas still active for the next month.
The spring season, however, gets under way in full force this week with perennial power states such as Illinois and Virginia starting regular season play.
In California, St. Ignatius (San Francisco, Calif.) won the NorCal Division I title, beating three nationally ranked teams on the way to the title. Likewise, Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.), already No. 2 in the FAB 50, delivered a NorCal title to reinforce its lofty national ranking. The SoCal Regional Division I events - boys and girls - turned into all-Southern Section affairs, with Loyola (Los Angeles, Calif.) boys and Upland (Calif.) girls taking home the titles. In both events, the Southern Section semifinalists advanced to the regional semifinals, and the matches had a slightly different outcome on the regional level.
This week, in spring boys soccer, top-ranked Station Camp (Gallatin, Tenn.) is slated to face McCallie School (Chattanooga, Tenn.) in the annual Smoky Mountain Cup in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
