HS: Winter state, region rankings, Dec. 31
Consider it the calm before the storm.
Last week, only a handful of nationally ranked programs were in action.
By contrast, this week, the Texas UIL high school season kicks off, meaning all winter programs officially will be in action. For the 33 FAB 50-ranked Texas teams schools, most of them will play three matches this week in Showcase events.
The week between Christmas and New Year's features only a couple major events -- Excalibur and North Orange County Classic, both in California, for the girls and the Arizona Showcase and SoCal High School Classic for boys. FAB 50 Girls No. 1 JSerra (Calif.) won the top flight at NOCC while highly ranked Los Alamitos (Calif.) won Excalibur. Torrey Pines (Calif.) edged San Clemente (Calif.) for the top flight at the SoCal High School Classic. Brophy Prep and undefeated Sunnyside (Ariz.) will meet in Monday's AZ Showcase final.
Limited action around the rest of the country resulted in no changes among state or regional No. 1s this week.
