HS: Winter state, region rankings, Jan. 1
We're ringing in the New Year with only one change at the top of any of the regional and state rankings -- and that came as a result of a rare 1-2 meeting of California programs.
Torrey Pines (Calif.) boys move to No. 1 in the California-South region and California state rankings following a 2-1 victory over Servite (Calif.) in the SoCal High School Classic National Division final. Servite entered the week No. 1 in both rankings, just ahead of Torrey Pines, which won the meeting with a last-minute goal.
Brophy Prep (Ariz.) won the AZ Showcase to stay very much in the race for the FAB 50 No. 1 ranking for boys, while JSerra (Calif.) girls won the North Orange County Classic to stay No. 1 in California. Los Osos (Calif.) girls won the Excalibur event to vault up the California region and state rankings.
This week, regular season play starts in Texas.
