HS: Winter state, region rankings, Nov. 30
Early play in Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi has led to a few rankings changes in the first of the weekly Winter boys and girls state and region rankings for the 2015-16 season.
The big movers for boys are Ponte Vedra (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Fleming Island (Fleming Island, Fla.), which move up into the No. 2 and 3 spots in the Florida-North region rankings and into the Nos. 4 and 5 spots in the state. [Monteverde Academy fl-m] (Montverde, Fla.), Madison Central (Madison, Miss.) and St. Paul's (Covington, La.) were the preseason state No. 1s and are a combined 19-0 entering this week to remain tops in their state.
On the girls side, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) is off to an 11-0 start to secure its state and region No. 1 ranking. [Oveido fl-w] (Oviedo, Fla.) vaulted into the Florida-North No. 1 spot powered by a win over No. 2 Viera (Melbourne, Fla.), which has a win over No. 3 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.). Ben Franklin (New Orleans, La.) and Madison Central (Madison, Miss.) stay No. 1 in their states.
Play in Arizona, California, Hawaii begins this week, while the Texas UIL will be the last to start, right after the New Year.
