Region, State HS Rankings: October 13

The final score was close, but when the game was over, Martin Luther King (Manhattan, N.Y.) celebrated a staggering milestone with a 1-0 victory over Shea on Saturday.

The win gave coach Martin Jacobson his 400th victory at the PSAL school where he has built a New York City powerhouse and perennially nationally ranked program. Since Jacobson took over in 1994, MLK has rolled up a 400-17-6 record. This year's squad is 13-0 and remains solidly at No. 3 in the East Region ranking and No. 1 among New York programs.

Shea entered the match with a perfect record and ranked No. 1 in Rhode Island.

Elsewhere in boys soccer this week, Delbarton School (Morristown, N.J.) survived a scare, while a rare draw by Suffield (Suffield, Conn.) costs the defending champ a top regional spot. Delbarton was pushed to a shootout in a county tournament match Sunday, yet won in penalty kicks to remain undefeated. Concord-Carlisle (Concord, Mass.) inherits the No. 1 ranking in the Northeast. Copley (Copley, Ohio), McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.), [Morton il-m] (Cicero, Ill.), Chaminade (St. Louis, Md.) and Jesuit ca-m] (Carmichael, Calif.) remain at No. 1 in their respective regions.

Two states are now finished for the fall season: Mississippi private school girls, with Jackson Prep as state champion and South Dakota, where Sioux Falls Lincoln swept the boys and girls titles.
