The USL Championship is set to begin play this weekend.
While MLS offers up a more robust youth setup, the second division competition certainly has its share of success. Whether moving players on to college, MLS teams or Europe, things have picked up on that front.
One of the unique wrinkles of the USL is the chance for players to compete at the professional level on an amateur contract. That allows players to pick up pro minutes and still head off to college.
As the new season begins on Saturday, here are some of the players who could feature for teams on a USL Academy contract.
