A major camp goal is to increase love for the game

“We take our camps very seriously,” says Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski.
That may be all you need to know when determining whether attending the camp run by the two-time NCAA Champions.
The Maryland Stars camp in particular, which runs July 31 to Aug. 2 on the College Park campus for rising sophomores to rising seniors, has become a key event for those interested in playing college soccer, including possibly for the Terrapins.
The Maryland soccer field.Cirovski said the camp is a great way to learn about the school and program.
“Most of the team stays in summer to take summer classes. They’re involved in all the camps as counselors, role models and players we use to provide clinics,” Cirovski said. “They can show an accurate level of what campers should aspire to as potential college players. We focus on technique. We’re one of last camps that make sure everybody gets a ball. We do a lot of little thing to affect the quality of repetition and all the work the campers will put in. The facilities are great, and they’ll be able to use our practice field and our game field during the week, plus our indoor facility if it’s extremely hot or there are poor weather conditions outside.”
Cirovski said one night of the event includes a coaches’ session where campers can learn a lot about the college soccer experience from the representatives of various programs who are at the camp. With this informative time and during the training activities, Cirovski says excellence is expected.
“We challenge our staff to make sure we get the very best from them,” he said. “We’re pretty demanding at our camp. We know people pay good money for a good camp and we want to make sure they walk out with a good experience that is a good reflection on our program and the university.
“I always tell them we want two things from the week,” he continued. We want them to leave better as an individual in terms of technique and knowing how to improve, and I want them to love the game of soccer more than when they got here. Of course I hope they love Maryland soccer more.”
