Real Colorado set for Memorial Weekend events
December 13, 2011
Founded as a grassroots effort in 1986, to give the local community a positive soccer experience, Real Colorado has since grown to serve more than 450 teams comprised of 4,600 players.
Its mission is to help “each player learn, grow, and celebrate his or her love of the game.” Dedicated to developing “character, integrity, and personal growth” for each individual youth player, Real Colorado has been voted a Top 20 club four consecutive years.
In addition to serving its large stable of competitive and recreational teams, Real Colorado hosts two Memorial Day Weekend tournaments that send hundreds of teams flocking to the Douglas County area each year.
Cindy Thomas, Real Colorado Tournament Director, said both events offer first-class soccer for every player, family and coach.
The competitive weekend includes matches at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the 24-field venue that serves as the home of Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids.
“We can provide a weekend of soccer for families with multiple players of different ages, as well as the opportunities for coaches who coach more than one team to have both teams play the same weekend,” said Thomas.
Last year, the Real Colorado Cup featured over 320 boys and girls teams ranging from the U10 to U18 age groups.
The Colorado Showcase, on the other hand, is suited for older competition. The event welcomes U15-U19 boys and girls teams, as well as Elite and Premier squads.
Included in the tournament registration are 15 tickets for one of three Rapids’ home games.
“Our main objective is to provide the best possible soccer experience for every player, whether it is to showcase their talents toward college recruitment or just have a really fun early-summer soccer weekend,” Thomas said.
Registration for both tournaments is currently open.
