Xavi Hernandez to Bring Soccer Camp to FL
World-renowned soccer player, Xavi Hernandez, a midfielder for FC Barcelona, will be bringing his Campus Xavi World Tour to the Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale, Fla., July 10-19. This is the first time that the Xavi World Tour is being held outside of Xavi’s native country, and Auburndale will play host to the only Tour stop outside of Spain.
“To have one of the world’s best soccer players choose Polk County as the only location outside of Spain to hold his annual soccer camp is truly a testament to the high caliber sports facilities, accommodations and attractions that Polk County has to offer,” said Polk County Commissioner and Tourism Development Council Chairperson Melony Bell.
The Campus Xavi World Tour will offer world-class soccer training in two separate five-day camp sessions on July 10-14 and July 15-19 for youth ages 8-15. The camp is open to both boys and girls.
The staff of the Campus Xavi Hernandez World Tour stresses that this will be a very professional camp. Xavi and the rest of the camp staff will be searching for talent during both sessions of the Campus Xavi World Tour. Should Xavi and the staff find anyone with the skills and talent they are looking for, there could be a possibility they will get the opportunity to tryout for FC Barcelona or other Spanish clubs.
Registration fees for the camp are $2000 per camper (accommodations not included) and participation is limited to 300 youth per camp session. In addition to soccer instruction, each camp participant will receive:
- 1 Campus Xavi uniform provided by adidas
- 1 individual picture with Xavi Hernandez
- The ability to have 1 item autographed by Xavi Hernandez
- Lunch provided each day
- Awards and trophies for all participants
“This is huge,” said Mark Jackson, director of Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing. “This is a big deal for anyone in the U.S. who loves and plays soccer. He is one of the most recognized soccer players in the world.”
For many years, Campus Xavi (based in Spain) has received many offers to move or expand his camp to other countries such as the United States or China. Finally, after reflecting deeply on the matter, Xavi has decided to spread valuable Campus Xavi know-how to other countries with Central Florida being his first stop.
“We look forward to welcoming Xavi Hernandez and all of the participants in his soccer camp to Auburndale and Central Florida,” said Auburndale Mayor Jack Myers. “We are proud that our community and the Lake Myrtle Sports Park have been chosen as the only site in the United States to host this world-class soccer camp.”
