2014 star player explains her commitment
Head down, or up when she has the ball at her feet, Mikaela Harvey goes about the business of making progress on and off the field.
Harvey recently committed to Texas A&M, an announcement that wasn’t exactly anticipated given that she’s just a 2014.
You can call the decision an early one if you’d like, but for Lonestar SC player Harvey it’s just the latest step in her fast track to achieve her goals.
“I never set a specific time for me to commit but I just felt that there was no need to look anymore because I found the one I wanted,” said Harvey, who once enrolled in three high school classes during middle school.
“I didn't want to waste coaches’ time when they could be looking at other players instead of me.”
Fair enough.
Coaches can’t help but look at Harvey though, as she brings so many attacking facets to the pitch. She’s a natural playmaker, and her stats bear that out: she leads the Austin-area club’s U16 ECNL team with 13 goals and has added three assists this season.
Other credentials include: multiple U.S. National Team call-ins and an ECNL National Championship last year.
Harvey chose Texas A&M over other top preferences Florida State, North Carolina and Santa Clara. She explained that it’s fairly close to home while still being far enough away.
“A&M has very high values and traditions that fit me,” she said. “Whenever I’m there it feels like a second home.”
