BOCA RATON, Fla. – Region I’s
Michelle Money (Gambrills, Md.) lived up to her name as she banked two goals in a 3-2 win over Region III in the lone 2000 contest of the day on Thursday morning in the US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional at Spanish River Athletic Park.
Region I improved to 2-0 as Money scored in the 22nd and 52nd minutes. Her goal in the 52nd minute snapped a 1-1 tie and Jenna Butler (Gainesville, Va.) scored just four minutes later to extend the lead to 3-1. Region III got one goal back from Abby Newton (Fleming Island, Fla.) in the 87th minute to pull to within 3-2, however they could get no closer.

Money, the team’s central midfielder was impressive in timing her late runs into the penalty area and finished two chances.
Other standouts for Region I included left back
Devon Lis (Princeton, N.J.), who was really tenacious as a defender. She showed great athleticism and battled and scrapped against a talented team. Goalkeeper
Holland Stam (Ipswich, Mass.) organized the back and controlled the tempo of the game and made a couple of big saves.
