BOCA RATON, Fla. – It only took a half for Region II's
Amelia Horton (Olathe, Kan.) to move to the top of the scoring charts for her age group.
Horton had three goals in the 46th, 62nd and 74th minute and an assist for the Region II team in a 5-2 win over Region IV in the 2002 action Thursdaymorning in the US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional at Spanish River Athletic Park. She finished the week with four goals as Region II outscored its opposition, 9-2 to go 3-0-0 in the group.
Region IV (0-2-1) opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a Mollie Griswold (Gilbert, Ariz.) goal.
Joyelle Washington (Canton, Mich.) equalized in the 14th minute before Region IV took a 2-1 halftime lead on CeCe Cross (Sylmar, Calif.) in the 28th minute.
Horton’s heroics keyed four unanswered goals by the mid-west region. The right winger demonstrated great pace. She was very crafty with the ball. She also knows and recognizes when to take players on and has the confidence to do that.
