2016 Unsigned Showcases: LA Girls Best XI
The summer of 2016 has officially begun following the TDS Unsigned Showcase in Los Angeles, California. Top programs from Southern California came out to work with some incredibly talented girls from clubs such as Slammers, Desert United and Legends FC. Below are just some of the players who caught the eye of our team and college coaches.

TDS Unsigned Showcase Los Angeles Girls Best XI:
GK Caitlin Hendricks, Slammers FC (2018): Hendricks did an excellent job showing her technical foot skills early on in the day. She showed good control of her back line throughout the day. She has very clean hands and was able to make good saves during the small sided and full field sessions.
D Elise Garcia, Rebels SC (2018): Garcia showed initiative throughout the day. She played well both defensively and offensively for her team during the full field games. She is a very fast young player who is able to produce a lot of opportunities for her team, all while playing simple soccer. Garcia showed good composure defensively, and was very decisive when pushing forward.
D Hillary Barragan, Desert United (2018): Barragan is a tall and strong center back. She was excellent at protecting her goal during the small sided and full field games. She is a stout defender, especially in 1v1 situations.
D Juliana Drevdahl, Rage FC (2017): Drevdahl is a deceivingly fast and strong athlete. She was able to recover quickly to make some important defensive stops during the full field games. Drevdahl was also very good at picking moments to go up the field and create scoring opportunities for her team.
D Caitlin Houghton, Utah Avalanche (2019): Houghton spent most of the day playing on a hurt ankle, but was always willing to work hard to support her team. She put her team first and played through the pain, showing how tough she is. She was asked to play in three different positions during the full field games and did well at each one. Houghton has very strong technical abilities and played simple and accurate passes out of the back.
M Joey Wright, FC Warriors (2017): Wright spent the day playing as an attacking midfielder. She showed an excellent understanding of the game, has great movement off the ball and was able to help create one of the best goals of the day through a give and go with her center forward. Wright is not afraid to shoot from well outside the box, providing a valuable weapon in attack.
M Gianna Creighton, Rebels SC (2019): Creighton showed versatility throughout the day but showed best as a holding midfielder. She did an excellent job of checking her shoulder and turning when she could or playing the ball back when she needed to. She was able to create many opportunities to turn and play forward to keep the attack moving.
M Vivian Cordero, Celtic (2017): From the moment Cordero stepped foot on the pitch, she showed everyone the skills she has both on and off the ball. She had very good technical skill and an incredibly high soccer IQ. This showed during the full field games as she created many opportunities for her team and was always available to receive the ball. Cordero is one to watch.
F Marcela Gallo, Desert United (2018): Gallo showed her strength throughout the day. She played as a left forward during the small sided and full field games. She was fast and strong, often times beating players down the line by pushing them off the ball. She created many crosses through her wing play and also showed great ability to shield and protect the ball from defenders.
F Raquel Hagar, Challenge FC (2019): Hagar is a fast and strong player from her outside attacking position. She is able to fill multiple roles on the pitch, but looked best when coming in as a right sided attacker/forward. Hagar liked to run at players and make plays down the wing. She often times would beat the defender down the wing and get off an accurate cross.
F Mason Stansberry, Desert United (2019): Stansberry was the standout player of the showcase. She was very fast and athletic. She showed her ability and cemented her position in this Best XI by closing out the day with three goals during the full field sessions. As a tall and fast center forward, she was able to create many excellent opportunities for her team. Stansberry has very good technical ability and movement off the ball, making her an incredibly dangerous player and someone to keep an eye on.
Honorable Mention
D Alexis Gaffney, Slammers FC (2018): Gaffney is a strong center back who constantly gives everything for her team. She controlled the back line thought the day, making many important stops. Gaffney showed her strength by shielding players off the ball after she had won possession. She was able to keep the game simple and protect her goal, a vital attribute for any aspiring center back.
D Katherine Hampton, Slammers FC (2017): Hampton has great size, she is a tall and strong outside back who is able to play both on the right and the left. She had good defensive stops and was decisive when going forward. Hampton has strong technical skills, often using her skill to dribble up the field to create chances.
M Emelie Peraza, Blues Youth SC (2019): Peraza is a smart offensive midfielder. She showed good technical ability and good movement off the ball. Her touch can use a bit of refinement, but she showed great understanding of the game by often moving the ball away from pressure and to open space. She worked hard and consistently found gaps in the midfield, allowing her to keep possession for her team. Peraza is a hard worker and never gave up on a play.
GK Makaylee Tenhoeve, Utah Avalanche (2019): Tenhoeve showed strong communication skills throughout the day. She made good saves coming off her line and had a very powerful goal kick. Tenhoeve is a young goalkeeper who has the raw talent and skills to mature in to a great keeper. She can work on her foot speed to help take her to the next level.
D Chloe Escarcega, Legends FC (2020): Escarcega was one of the youngest players we had on the field. She was also one of the hardest working players and best teammates. Escarega knows the game very well and did an excellent job of playing simple throughout the day.
D Afrah Khan, Texas Rush (2018) Khan is an extremely hard worker and skilled individual. She played right back during the day and showed very good communication skills with her teammates. Khan has a high work rate and is a very physical defender. Khan is strong and most importantly showed a great understanding of how and when to use her body.
