Academy Rewind: Action heating up
West Conference
Arsenal FC’s Ethan Zubak scored a 44th minute goal against San Jose Earthquakes, powering his U16 side to a 1-0 win. The Earthquakes took care of business is the U18 match, winning 4-0. It was a busy weekend for San Jose’s Academy as they played a pair of games on Sunday against Real So Cal, losing both, 4-3 and 3-0 respectively.
Padraic McCullagh and Steven Wright netted a pair of goals to lead San Juan Soccer Club to a narrow 4-3 win against Chivas USA in a U18 meeting. Chivas redeemed the day for the U16s, securing a 3-1 win.

Central Conference
Sporting KC and Houston Dynamo Academies saw plenty of each other over the weekend, playing a total of four times in total. It was a weekend to forget – at least from a results perspective – for the traveling group from KC, as the Dynamo won all four meetings. On Saturday, the Dynamo won 2-0 and 3-2 (U18 and U16 respectively), following that up on Sunday with wins of 4-3 (U18s) and 5-2 (U16s).
Two goals from Gabriel Cano in the first half helped Solar Chelsea ease to a 3-0 win against Texas Rush, as Barry Foster added the third in the 87th minute. Texas Rush’s U16s bounced back for the club, winning 3-1 on the day.
One of many teams seeing its first action in the New Year, FC Dallas returned to Academy action with two wins against Lonestar SC Academy – the U18s locking things down with a 2-1 victory, while the U16s cruised to a 3-0 win.
East Conference
A pair of matchups between Charlotte Soccer Academy and Kendall SC produced identical results. Sergio Lujan deposited the game-winning goal for Kendall’s U18s, before Robert Robinson tallied the game’s only goal as Charlotte won the U16 clash.
Danny Jensen scored a hat trick and Rhys Williams added a brace as Weston FC’s U18s won 7-2 against the visiting North Meck SC. The two club’s U16 sides drew 1-1 on the swing to Florida. North Meck U16s also snagged three points on Sunday, securing a 3-1 win against Kendall SC.
Two goals from Evan Fowler, including an early strike in the seventh minute, paved the way for Richmond Kickers 5-0 win over Virginia Rush in the U18 match. The Rush’s U16s squeezed out a 1-0 victory to make the trip home a bit nicer for the Rush.
Orlando City hit man Richard Prestridge found the back of the net once again, his 14th tally on the season, as the Florida club erased a 2-0 deficit to grab a 3-2 victory against IMG Academy.
