The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.
The U14 Baltimore Bays have kept alive a ridiculous streak, which has placed them at the top of the U14 Boys Mid Atlantic TeamRank standings.
“The team was brought together 18 months ago and we haven’t suffered a defeat,” Head Coach Brandon Quaranta said. “We went undefeated during the fall season, and won the Disney Junior Soccer Showcase.”
“At these ages we try to teach them to be defensive and organized, but we want to stress attractive soccer,” Quaranta said. “We also promote that it is important that these kids learn to keep possession of the ball and get chances at goal.”
Zachary Ridgley and Christopher Haskins anchor the backline, while Conner Smith is the engine of the midfield and through while most attacks go through.
Nate Hall, who has been involved with the U.S. U15 BNT, and Eric Spalt are the go-to forwards. Hall is a speedy natural forward, and Spalt plays a more target and holding forward position.
With the fruits of being consistently successful is the unfamiliarity of how the team will react when they are faced with defeat. The Baltimore Bays have, so far, the luxury of never losing, but Coach Quaranta acknowledges that it’s something inevitable. However, he always reminds his players of that possibility, and he’s confident that his kids will not fold.
“We make sure the kids don’t take anything for granted. Even though we’ve had the fortune of getting the results, there will be a time where we’ll go through bad spells,” he said. “They have to be ready for that and we talk about it all the time. It’s a learning process and we won’t know until we get there. But I think with this group is tough, resilient, and will come out stronger in the end.”
Other teams topping the boys’ charts are the U13 Baltimore Bays, U15 Olney BGC, U16 Reston Futbol Club, U17 Annandale Boys and Girls Club, U18 Beach FC.
On the girls side we have the U13 Ashburn Soccer Club, U14 Parkville SC, U15 SAC United, U16 Chantilly Youth Association, U17 McLean Youth Soccer, and U18 Bethesda SC.
