The success of the Best Of Cup inaugural event, Best Of The East, was launched in February of 2024 at WSFS Bank Sportsplex and Chase Fieldhouse Fields. The sold out event offered top clubs and players from various leagues the chance to play against one another, and for many teams, these matchups might not otherwise ever have happened.
Teams from MLS NEXT, USYS, NAL, and ECNL all had the opportunity to face each other, with 195 college coaches in attendance.
As part of the February event, the organizers hosted the Best Of Cup - Uncommitted Games. Putting together teams of individual players that had yet to make a college decision, it offered a unique platform for players from the 2025 through 2027 classes to be seen by college coaches.
“The Best Of Cup - Uncommitted Games allowed us college coaches to see high-level players competing against one another in a very competitive environment,” Haverford head coach Kevin Brenner said. “As college coaches, that is what we want to see because, ultimately, we want players who can succeed in that domain. These Uncommitted Games provided a fantastic platform for just that.”
Now, the organization behind the Best of Cup is set to take the platform to another level. Along with the Best Of Cup - Best Of The East Boys, they are launching Best Of The East Girls, Best Of The East U8 - U14 B/G and potentially expanding the event to other regions of the country.
The idea behind it is to bring the best players and clubs from every league and bring them to events to play in front of college coaches and pro scouts. Identifying teams and players through an application process allows the Best Of Cup to be very selective.
The aim will be to streamline recruiting opportunities and replicate the success of players like Patrick Shaw, who competed at the Uncommitted Game earlier this year. He eventually committed to play at Coastal Carolina.
“It was super competitive and there were tons of college coaches which definitely raised the level and brought the best out of each player,” he said. “This game definitely played a role in getting me recruited to play Division I soccer and I definitely think it helped many more in the game as well."
In order to be eligible for the event, teams and players need to apply. With an experienced staff, the evaluations will look to filter out and bring in the best to see “Who’s Best”.
