San Luis Obispo is becoming a haven for top soccer recruits. Colorado Rush midfielder Noah Chapleski is the latest prospect to give his verbal commitment to the Big West program.

Chapleski, a 2015 recruit, played in 31 games for the Colorado Rush U18 squad in the Development Academy during the 2013-14 season. The 17-year-old started two of the three games in the Academy playoffs where the Rush advanced to the quarterfinal stage with two wins and a draw. He also started in the quarterfinal against FC Dallas where a late goal from the Texas side ended Rush’s season.

The future still looks bright for the midfielder with his recent college commitment.

“San Luis Obispo is a great town and I fell in love with the place almost immediately when I visited,” Chapleski told TopDrawerSoccer. “Also I've seen Cal Poly play in the past and know they play a great style of football. And Paul [Holocher] and Phil [Ruskin] are great coaches.”

The rabid support of the Mustang fans also helped seal his decision, Chapleski said.

The Rush standout could play anywhere in the midfield for the Mustangs, but he prefers the No. 10 or No. 8 role.

Prior to his commitment, Chapleski was also considering Gonzaga and Louisville.

He joins Jonathan Partida, Christopher Villa, and Evan Martinez as known recruits for Cal Poly’s 2015 class.

Cesar Farias Jr, Forward, Atletico Santa Rosa

Commitment: Harvard

An attacking standout for Northern California club Atletico Santa Rosa, Cesar Farias made thorough work of his college search.

Eventually, he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to commit to one of the best schools in the country.

“At the end of the day my decision to commit to Harvard University came down to fulfilling a childhood dream of mine,” Farias told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “Harvard University is academically one of the best if not the best university in the world. With the additions of coach [Pieter] Lehrer and coach [Jonathan] Delano, not only will I be getting a great education and developing as an individual, but I'll also be playing college soccer at a high level.”

Farias is hopeful that while playing at Harvard and getting a top-level education, he can continue working toward his goal of playing professionally one day.

He thinks that the program is headed in the right direction under Lehrer, who was named as the head coach in May 2013. The team finished a game outside of first place in the Ivy League, and Farias had the chance to see how the team plays during a summer soccer camp.

“They focus heavily on team chemistry and making sure everyone is on the same page,” Farias said. “I feel that the coaches are committed to playing quality soccer, and they will continue to bring quality players that will lead Harvard to success on and off the field.”

Harvard also afforded him the opportunity to live somewhere much, much different than where he currently lives.

“I want my college experience to be something very different from my life here in Northern California,” he said. “So when I stepped foot on the Harvard campus, I knew this is where I wanted to be. The old architecture, the green landscape, the ivy, the subway at Harvard Square, it was all so different and it just felt right.  I get the opportunity to be around some very smart people, and I know I will get a great education. I've never lived in a place where it snowed, so I'm looking forward to experience that as well.”

Farias is the fourth verbal commitment to Harvard for its 2015 recruiting class.
