Boys Recruiting Insider: Multiple Choice
Marius Heislitz, Goalkeeper, Georgia United
Top 150 Rank: 24
Class: 2014
One of the top goalkeeping prospects in the Class of 2014, Georgia United shot-stopper Marius Heislitz has many options when it comes to considering where he wants to take the next step of his playing career.
He’s still very early in his college search.
“I have been looking at a few colleges lately,” Heislitz told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “I haven’t made any visits yet but might be going on some soon. I’ve looked at some schools in the southeast that interest me and a few on the West coast too.”
Heislitz has a wealth of experience at the highest level. In the spring of 2012, he was a member of the U.S. U17 Residency Program at Bradenton, and has appeared at various youth national team camps as well as the ODP program.
Back with his Development Academy team Georgia United for this fall, he has lofty goals for what he wants to achieve on the field.
“During this academy season I really want to get as many shut outs as I can,” he said. “Not conceding goals is a big deal to me and I hope to keep out as many as I can.
“Also this season I want to try to make it to finals week with our team. Last year, being GA United’s inaugural year [in the Academy], making it to the playoffs gave me a taste of what a national championship would be like.”
College isn’t his only option either, as Heislitz holds a EU passport through his German heritage, meaning a move to Europe when he turns 18 – or perhaps even earlier – would be a bit easier. In September, he had the chance to travel to Everton and train with the Academy team of the EPL club.
Satoshi Chaffin, Forward, Crossfire Premier
Top 150 Rank: 88
Class: 2014
Satoshi Chaffin was the leading scorer for Crossfire Premier U16 in the Development Academy last season with six goals in 29 starts for the Washington club. This year, Chaffin is off to a good start with one goal in the first three games.
This season is also the important one for his recruiting process as college coaches make their pitches to top recruits with the hope of early commitments.
Chaffin is staying pretty even-keel about the situation, as he explains concentrating on his schoolwork is his priority for now.
“Right now, I am focusing on keeping my grades up and preparing for the SAT/ACT, which I will be taking this winter,” Chaffin, who had a 3.8 GPA last year, told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “The most important factor for my college search would be academics and location.”
The forward from Washington State said he has family on the opposite side of the country, so he is open to either coast.
He went on to reveal that colleges from a number of conferences, “including the Pac 12, ACC, Big East, WCC, and MPSF,” have been in contact with him already.
