The U.S. U17 Men’s National Team lost to Nigeria 2-0 on Saturday. The defeat was deflating not merely because of the scoreline, or because it put the team in hole out of the box in the U17 World Cup, but because of how the team played in a practical sense. The U.S. couldn’t build from the back and couldn’t adequately counter Nigeria’s 60-odd percent possession.
That, naturally, was a recipe for disaster. Spice in zero shots on target from the Americans, and it was a bad day at the office all around.
