The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.
The U16 D’Feeters Girls’ team, of Texas, has brought in major reinforcements for this season.
Eight new players have arrived and mixed in well with the returners in order to form a group that’s high on athleticism and skill.
“We attack with all 11,” said coach Shea Wilder. “We’re very offense oriented and we play the game very direct. If you look at the game in this country it’s really very defensive oriented and there’s a lot of counter attacking. I don’t know if that’s the best way to develop players, and that’s not the way we play.”
The development of the D’Feeters can be traced to the amount of players they have who are coveted by college programs.
Players like midfielders Ashley York and Aleah Davis, defender Emery Cason, forward Amber Haggerty and goalkeeper Sara Martinson are just a few of the team’s skilled athletes who have a bright future at the next level.
The challenge for the team this year will be building chemistry on the fly, though talent has a way of overshadowing weakness.
“Athletically, we can match up with anyone – this is a very talented team,” Wilder said. It’s also a group of great kids. They have a lot of fun together.”
Other featured Texas squads in this week’s TeamRank, include: U13 Dallas Texans, U14 Sting Dallas, U15 Lonestar SC, U16 Dallas Texans, U17 Challenge SC and U18 Space City Premier.
On the boys’ side we’ve got: U13 Solar SC, U14 Andromeda SC 97B Red, U15 Albion Hurricanes FC 96B, U16 Texans Soccer Club-Houston, U17 AYSES 94B Gold and U18 Texas Fire.
