Creighton adds six players for 2015
The Creighton men's soccer team announced the addition of six players to the roster for the 2015 season.
Head coach Elmar Bolowich and his staff will welcome Kyle Ericson, Bryce Gibson, Elias Helbig, Peter Prescott, Connor Ramlo and Jacob Rooth for the fall of 2015. The half dozen student-athletes are in addition to newcomers Joel Rydstrand and Evan Waldrep who have played in the spring exhibition season for the Bluejays.
Two of the new additions, Ericson and Helbig, come to Creighton from the Colorado Rapids Development Academy.
Ericson, a native of Denver, has started for the Rapids in each of the past two seasons. He participated on the Rapids’ Generation Adidas Cup team last season as a junior. As a sophomore Ericson earned all-conference honors at Cherry Creek High School and helped his club team, the Colorado Storm, to a state Championship. He also participated in Colorado’s Olympic Development Program in 2011 and 2012. Ericson also helped Cherry Creek advance to the Class 5A semifinals in 2012.
Helbig has started alongside Ericson in each of the last two campaigns for the Colorado Rapids DA. He too participated on the Generation Adidas Cup team last year. Helbig also hails from Denver and has traveled abroad to London and Madrid with the Adidas International Training Program to train with coaches from Chelsea and Real Madrid. Helbig started two seasons at East High School helping the team to two Class 5A quarterfinal appearances and a state championship in 2011.
Gibson hails from Lee’s Summit, Missouri and has played with the Sporting Kansas City Academy. He garnered most valuable player accolades at the Creighton Soccer Academy in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Gibson led his league in goals scored during the 2012 campaign and in assists in 2011. He earned postseason all-conference honors at Lee’ Summit North High School and led the school to district championships and the state final four as a sophomore and freshman.
Prescott signed with Creighton in February after spending the last few years at the Portland Timbers Academy. The Vancouver, Washington native has captained the Timbers squad since 2013. He helped the U-18 Timbers advance to the playoffs in 2014 and trained with the U-23 Portland Timbers. Prescott scored a goal against the U-17 national team in 2014 and compiled 12 scores as a junior and sophomore. As a freshman at Mountain View High School he earned second team all-conference honors and helped the squad to a fourth-place showing in the Class 3A playoffs.
Ramlo hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and has spent time with the Iowa and Cedar River Soccer Clubs. He has helped his club teams to four Iowa State Cup Championships since 2009. At Xavier High School he earned first team all-state, all-conference, all-tournament and all-metro honors in 2014. He led Xavier to a pair of district championships and Class 2A state final four appearances as a junior and sophomore. Ramlo scored the game-winning goal with three minutes remaining to bring Xavier a Class 2A state championship in 2013.
Rooth comes to Creighton after spending the last three seasons at the Chicago Fire Academy. The Evanston, Illinois native was a member of the 2014 Generation Adidas Cup Champion Domestic Division squad. Rooth has received multiple invitations to the U.S. Soccer National Team ID Training Center and played on Region II and Illinois State Olympic Development teams from 2009-2011. He was a member of a U.S. Youth Soccer Region II semifinalist squad and the SC Battery Challenge Cup Championship team in 2013 with a 0.00 goals against average.
