In that vein, here are the top 20 players TopDrawerSoccer.com saw on Friday.
F Mimi Asom, Dallas Sting U17s: Asom is well on her way to the event’s golden boot. She smashed and grabbed her way to a hat trick in a 5-0 win over the Michigan Hawks on Friday, and she looked impressive doing it. Her first was a true poacher’s effort, and she converted a penalty she drew herself for her second. Her third came about 10 minutes later when she cleaned up a scramble around the goal mouth.
M Claudia Sanchez, FC Dallas U18s: Sanchez was outstanding on the left for FCD, which narrowly missed getting a result in a thrilling 3-2 loss against Las Vegas Premier. She was lively as a winger, fleet of foot and pushed in a number of dangerous crosses.
M Zoe Morse, Michigan Hawks U17s: Morse’s influence in the Hawks’ crushing 5-0 loss to the Dallas Sting on Friday was just as evident in her outsize presence on the field as it was in her absence. The Virginia 2016 commit was hugely important as a key cog for the Hawks in the holding midfield until she appeared to injure her ankle and was carried off about 20 minutes into the match. She didn’t return, and all five goals came with Morse off the field.
