Disney Girls Soccer Showcase begins
January 1, 2011
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Disney Girls Soccer Showcase began on Friday at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.
As part of it, the U.S. Youth Soccer National League resumed action, and here are details of two of those contests.
In one of the U16 matches, Brandon FC Flames (Florida) and Eclipse Select 94-95 (Illinois) finished with a 2-2 draw.
“I think it was overall, a well played game,” said Eclipse coach Mike Nesci.
With both teams running similar systems, the similarities were evident.
In an evenly matched contest, Eclipse jumped on board first with a header from Katherine Treankler in the third minute. Her goal came off of a corner, with an assist from Caroline Pzydrowski.
After some back-and-forth play by both squads, Brandon had the advantage in the 14th minute with a header from Jacqueline Simpson.
Eclipse was on the pursuit to tie the game and did so after some missed scoring chances early on, with a goal in the 32nd minute. Cory Levels took an attempted clear and then found the goal tie the match at 2-2.
Both teams continued to fight for a score but the game ended without either sticking one in the back of the net.
