ECNL Preview: End of the season blues
The week before an ECNL National Event tends to be a calm before a storm with a brief breath before a plethora of games over three days. However, with the end of the season looming and much to do before the playoffs, there is no break for the weary this weekend.
The National Event in New Jersey kicks off May 23. Check back on TopDrawerSoccer for exclusive coverage from that event as well as previews and recaps from the final National Event of the season.
U14
Michigan Hawks close out the regular season this weekend with a doubleheader against Eclipse Select Soccer Club. Eclipse needs to win both games in order to jump into the playoff hunt. Hawks, the top team in the country according to the standings, is one of four teams that are unbeaten on the year. The Hawks defense of Madeline Carlson, Olivia Cogo, Erin MacDonald, and Isabelle Verdugo plus goalkeeper Maciah Lipsey have only allowed five goals through 14 games.
Solar Chelsea SC is also ending the regular season this weekend with a game against Lonestar on Saturday. Solar already clinched the title in the Texas Conference, but still needs a win to keep hold of the its spot in the national standings. Solar defeated Lodestar 1-0 earlier this season thanks to a goal from Caroline Berutti.
GSA wraps up its campaign with a game against Atlanta Fire on Saturday. The local rivalry is the highlight of the slate in the Southeast Conference. GSA is top of the table and looking to close out the season with a win. GSA won the first meeting this season 4-1 thanks to two goals from Macy Douglas.
U15
The Southwest Conference is the host of an important showdown for the national standings this weekend. Real So Cal takes on San Diego Surf and Slammers this weekend with all three teams in the top 16 of the national standings heading into the weekend. Slammers won the first meeting this season against Real So Cal 2-1. Surf and Real So Cal played to a 0-0 draw in October.
FC Virginia returns to the field this weekend after being out of action since February. FC Virginia takes on Internationals in the penultimate game of the season. FC Virginia is 10-1-6 on the season and sits in 12th place in the national standings.
D’Feeters and Dallas Texans are set to battle on Saturday. Texans sit in second in the conference while D’Feeters are third. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in the first meeting of the season. Sarah O’Neal and Sophia Silva-Trevino scored for Texans. Taylor Moon and Maddison Algya scored for D’Feeters.
U16
Indiana Fire Juniors take on Ohio Premier and Bethesda SC over the weekend. Indiana Fire Juniors is top of the Ohio Valley Division with a 8-1-1 mark in division play. Indiana Fire Juniors beat Ohio Premier 4-0 in the first meeting this season. Ryanne Brown scored twice in the win.
TSC Hurricane takes on Dallas Sting on Sunday in a Texas Conference showdown. Both teams currently hold a spot in the top 25 for the national standings. Sting won the first meeting this season 2-1. Adrianna Jimmerson had both assists for Sting in the win.
Penn Fusion takes on FC Bucks this weekend in Pennsylvania. Fusion won the first meeting this season 3-2. Cashlin Copley had a goal and an assist in the win.
U17
Maryland United takes on Internationals this weekend in a battle between the top two teams in the Ohio Valley Division. Maryland United is trying to bounce back after losing 1-0 to Internationals on May 3. Isabel Sentle scored the game-winning goal in that fixture.
FC Portland and Crossfire United square off on Sunday in a Mountain Division showdown. FC Portland is in the playoff hunt heading into the weekend and would benefit from a victory this weekend. This is the first meeting of the season between the teams.
U18
West Coast FC has three games in four days, as it closes out the season. West Coast hits the road to take on SC Del Sol and Sereno Soccer Club over the weekend. Then West Coast comes back to SoCal for a game against So Cal Blues on Tuesday. West Coast FC is fifth in the national standings heading into the weekend.
