ECNL Recap: May 19-20
There was no shortage of ECNL action this past weekend, even though a crucial, decisive showcase looms for a number of clubs over Memorial Day weekend up in New Jersey.
Here’s how a number of clubs fared ahead of next weekend’s decider:
U15
FC Bucks swept past FC Delco in a pair of games over the weekend, winning 3-0 and 2-0 as the two teams faced off twice. Danielle DeMichael, Michaela Finneyfrock and Leigh Ann Bertolet scored in the first win.
Anika Rodriguez provided the firepower for So Cal Blues this weekend, scoring four goals and adding an assist for the Blues in a 5-1 defeat of Eagles Soccer Club. It wasn’t all bad news for the Eagles, which beat Real So Cal on Sunday 2-1 thanks to goals from Jannelle Garcia and Callie Mclaughlin.
For Real So Cal, it was a winless weekend, as they fell 1-0 to San Diego Surf in their other game.
With a pair of big games on the slate, PDA rose to the occasion to come away with the full six points. Kristy Cotter scored a goal in each win, as PDA saw off Bethesda 4-2, following that up with a 3-1 win against Scorpions SC.
In a dominant two-game stretch for Dallas Sting, they beat a pair of Texas clubs to wrap up their regular season. The Sting got the better of Lonestar SC 1-0, and followed that up with a 4-0 defeat of Challenge SC.
U16
The weekend provided a pair of wins for Lonestar SC against in-state rivals. After edging the Dallas Sting by 1-0, Lonestar followed that up with a much easier 3-0 win against D’Feeters SC.
Eagles SC beat So Cal Blues 2-1 on the way to splitting their two games. After goals from Arianna Dugas and Brooke Horvatich inspired the win, Eagles were blanked in a 3-0 loss to Real So Cal. Sarah Ishikawa, Whitney White and Dana Fujikuni all scored in the win for So Cal.
Making the trip south and coming away with four points was Crossfire Premier. After battling to a 0-0 draw against San Juan Soccer Club, Crossfire defeated Irvine Strikers 4-1. Kelsee Crenshaw, Calisse Crisler, Simone Gunsolus and Sarah Stella all found the back of the net for Premier.
U17
The torrid scoring streak of McKenzie Meehan continued at a relentless pace. The forward scored five goals in two games as her Scorpions SC side defeated World Class FC 5-1, before securing a 3-3 draw on the road again PDA.
The Dallas Sting won a couple of close games over the weekend. After Madelyn Crabtree scored the game winner in a 1-0 win over Lonestar SC, Britt Blackwell bagged a brace in a 3-2 defeat of Challenge SC.
In a unique wrinkle, FC Bucks and FC Delco played each other on Saturday and Sunday, with Delco coming away the big winners. After Alexandra Cooper fired Delco to a 3-0 win, Kristen Gatti scored four to lead Delco to a second straight win by 5-0.
U18
It was a pair of comprehensive wins for PDA against two strong opponents. Saturday PDA defeated FC Stars of Massachusetts 4-2, before following that up with an even bigger 5-1 win over Scorpions SC.
San Diego Surf wrapped up their ECNL regular season schedule with a win over Real So Cal. Alexandra Bailey and Olivia Buechler provided the goals.
Tori Elgin scored and assisted as D’Feeters beat Challenge SC 2-0. Ashton Norman scored the other goal, and D’Feeters followed up that performance with a second win on Sunday, beating Lonestar 1-0.
Crossfire Premier snatched two wins, a 3-0 defeat of San Juan Soccer Club, and followed that up with another three-goal performance, winning 3-1 against Irvine Strikers on Sunday.
ECNL Peak Performers
D Leigh Ann Bertolet, FC Bucks U15: It was a strong weekend for FC Bucks, and Bertolet was instrumental in two wins, helping her club keep a shut out and grabbing a goal.
F Brenna Brown, World Class FC U16: Brown picked up a goal and an assist, helping her World Class FC team to a big 3-2 win over Scorpions SC.
MF Britt Blackwell, Dallas Sting U17: The midfielder picked up a pair of goals for her six-point weekend.
D Simone Gunsolus, Crossfire Premier U16: One of the top players on a good weekend for Crossfire, Gunsolus helped limit the opposition to a single goal and scored as well.
F Anika Rodriguez, So Cal Blues U15: Rodriguez had a hand in all five goals scored by her So Cal Blues side, as she bagged four and assisted on the other one in a 5-1 win.
D Erin Owen, Slammers FC U18: Assisted on the game’s only goal and helped her side keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.
F Kristen Gatti, FC Delco U17: The forward found the back of the net four times in one game, leading FC Delco to a 5-0 defeat of in-state rivals FC Bucks.
MF Tori Elgin, D’Feeters SC U18: With a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win, Elgin helped secure all six points on the weekend.
