ECNL Weekend Recap: March 3-4
March 5, 2012
The ECNL weekend schedule may have been light, but there wasn’t a shortage of exciting action over the weekend.
Ohio Premier Eagles U17s hosted one of the more pulsating encounters of the weekend, coming erasing a 2-0 deficit to earn a draw against Penn Fusion on Sunday.
It was an unbeaten weekend for the Eagles, as they also won 2-1 on Saturday against FC Bucks, two decent results over two tough opponents.
”I thought both teams were certainly very good teams, they did a good jobs battling and competing – they made things difficult for us,” Ohio Premier head coach Chris King told TopDrawerSoccer.com.”
Sunday’s encounter was particularly difficult, as the Eagles missed a few opportunities to take the lead early in the first half,
But the Eagles found a way to battle back, pulling a goal back when Emily Byorth scored from a Lindsay Agnew’s corner, before Agnew scored the equalizer with around 12 minutes left.
The result was a stark reminder of just how competitive every ECNL match is.
“Like I told the girls after the game, this is why we’re in this league,” King said. “You can’t look at anyone’s record and take them for granted. You can’t take any games off, in this league with the quality from top to bottom, you’ve got to take advantage of your opportunities.”
Penn Fusion U17 was also involved in a second frenetic game on Saturday, defeating Ohio Elite Soccer Academy 5-4 to finish unbeaten on a trip to Ohio.
