Girls Jefferson Cup: Championship Sunday
The stage was set for some impressive finales to a great weekend at the Jefferson Cup. Wind and rain would not prevent these girls from playing some great soccer.

NJ Stallion Dynamite 1 v. Tampa Bay United 0
Sunday’s championship did not start out pretty as both sides tried to complete passes in the wind and mud with many either intercepted or miss trapped by teammates.
This became an advantage to the New Jersey side which was able to cash in on a couple bad bounces in the back for Tampa.
Juliana Mascelli sent in a cross that fell short of anyone in blue jerseys but was able to skip past two United defenders where the ball met Tomi Kennedy.
Kennedy then turned and found herself 1 v 1 where she ans was able to find the back of the net with ease. Mascelli found herself serving balls into the box repeatedly in the first half with tons of time and space on the right side of midfield.
In the second half the rain picked up and the United offense began to press, as they knew it was a race against the clock. Dynamite was led in the back by goalkeeper Kelly Lamorte and the always-impressive Amalya Johnson but United would not go out with a fight.
They added a third forward into the attack, which made the Dynamite play more defensive.
Samantha Betters had the United's best opportunity of the day when she hit a free kick that nearly skimmed the cross bar. Dynamite was able to hold off for the 1-0 victory and their third shutout of the tournament.

TUSC Blitz-Thunder United 1 v. YMS Xplosion 0
This overtime thriller had everyone in attendance on the edge of their seat and even caused other fields to join in and watch.
The Region 3 finalists from Oklahoma came into the final winning all three-group stage games. Meanwhile, YMS stumbled in with two wins and a tie.
Both teams dealt with the rain the best way they could in this 80-minute thriller (70 minute game plus 10 minutes for overtime).
This match was a dogfight in midfield, and not many shots were put on frame. The later the game went on the more fatigue set in for these girls who played four games in two days.
With only minutes left in regulation TUSC had their best opportunity of the game. A booming shot from outside the 18 was tipped off the line after raddling the crossbar.
The YMS Xplosion then took the ball straight down the field and landed themselves an even better opportunity, as a low cross went through the legs of a Thunder united defender.
The ball then found a wide open forward who could not get a shot off due to the TUSC goalie shutting down the angle, and regulation ended with neither side able to find the back of the net.
Jefferson Cup overtime rules state the teams play two 5-minute periods and if there is still a tie there will be a shootout.
One minute into the first extra time the TUSC Blitz-Thunder United got on the board with a controversial non-offside call that left YMS players fuming.
The next nine minutes were spent with the Oklahoma side clearing the ball up the field in pursuit of their first Jefferson Cup crown.
