Girls TDS Combine Best XI: NorCal
On June 1st Turlock Regional Sports complex in Northern California played host to the first of our 10 combines in the TDS combine series. The event saw some of the top talent from all over the west coast showcase themselves from in front of 15 Colleges raging from D1, D2, D3 and NAIA.
One D1 coach stated that the combine was, “a brilliant event full of top players and great energy” in which they found “numerous players of interest.” With one player already locking in an unofficial visit through the event, NorCal has definitely set high standards for the 2014 series.
The day saw the coaches run through technical sessions, small sided games and a series of full field games through which players were evaluated. Based on the players’ performances, we put together the Girls First Team All-Combine and Second Team All-Combine sponsored by National Guard.
If you think you have what it takes to make the TDS Best XI check out how you can get seen at any of our 8 remaining Combines in 2014 here.
Girls First Team All Nor-Cal combine
Madison Newsom –FC Elk Grove - Goalkeeper – 2016 - Madison is a solid and confident keeper who distributes the ball well and is comfortable with the ball at her feet. A great shot stopper and executes well under pressure, she really impressed the Saint Mary’s goalkeeper coach on the day.
Ali Cotton – San Juan - Defender – 2017 - Ali looked comfortable at both left and right back and looked very Patrice Evra esque gliding up and down the line. She plays the ball well out of the back, doing well to take her space and isn't shy to go in hard for a tackle.
Emily Talmi – Place United SC - Defender – 2018 - Emily is a mentally alert player who makes good decisions for her age. She isn’t afraid to try and beat players down the line, but doesn’t over complicate the game and keeps it simple in tight spaces. Her delivery into the box was second to none on the day. She will technically and physically strengthen up with time and is in a great spot for her age.
Madelyn Cuculich – Mustang SC – Defender – 2018 – Not only is Cuculich strong, fast and great in the air but she is smart, comfortable on the ball, supports well making her all round defender. Her decision making on and off the ball and her ability to keep the ball sets her apart for her age.
Myah Oden –Atletico Santa Rosa - Midfielder – 2016 - Myah is a fantastic athlete, with blistering speed and comfortable moving with the ball at her feet. She likes to start out wide and make smart and dynamic runs through the middle. She made the right decisions in 1v1 situations and used her speed effectively throughout the day. With the right players around her, Myah could get a lot of goals drifting in from out wide.
Erika Munoz – Atletico Santa Rosa - Midfielder – 2017 - Erika is a cheeky center mid who is great on the dribble in tight spaces and plays simple passes to keep the flow of the game moving quickly. Her pass completion ratio was almost perfect, with her ability to do the simple things well making her stand out throughout the day.
Xenia Perea – Pleasanton Rage - Midfielder – 2016 - Xenia is great technically with good vision of the field. She made some smart runs up top and through midfield and showed great speed. Her dynamic runs created space for her team mates.
Alexandra Rooney – Atletico Santa Rosa - Midfielder/forward – 2016 –Rooney didn’t let her name sake down – a smart and athletic player who is unselfish going forward. She makes dynamic runs which allow the midfield to bring other players into the game through the space she creates. When in possession Rooney keeps it simple and has a great strike.
Katelyn Chandler – Capital Athletic SA Forward – 2016 - Katelyn is strong and quick, and works hard to win the ball back when the team is not in possession which allows her to create opportunities out of nothing. She worked well as a target forward because of her strength and was very effective in the 11v11 games.
Sydney Shepherd – Mustang SC - Forward/Defender -2018 –Shepard is a defender for club but mixed most of her day up between playing as a forward and at center back and did not disappoint at either. She stood out first finishing some great chances playing up top and used her pace to beat players on the dribble. She is a multi-dimensional forward who can slow or speed the game up and bring other players into the game. When playing at the back she was smart, read the game well and was extremely vocal particularly for her age.
Olivia-Aman Cotton – Pleasanton Rage - Forward – 2015 - Olivia is a game changer - Strong, fast and hard working on and off the ball. She is excellent technically with all aspects on the ball and was clinical in front of goal taking all 3 of her chances. Maybe at her best when under pressure - has an excellent change of pace.
