What some of the participants had to say…

Jeff Tottleben, coach of 17U LFA Tottleben 2005G (MO), on the recruitment opportunities…
“The college coaches I’ve talked to love to see competitive games, and they want to see you tested against the hardest teams possible. Down here, there are no free lunches, every game is very hard. And they are seeing all of our players play under duress for 90 minutes, which is really good for them. They see what players’ strengths and weaknesses are and help evaluate them.

Brent Anderson, coach of defending National Champion Utah Celtic 03 (UT)…
“The level of the competition [at National League P.R.O.] is high, and it forces us to elevate our games. We can scrimmage or play other matches, but you really need to come to these events to play against some of the best teams in the country. We’re always measuring ourselves and always testing ourselves, and I think the girls did a great job this weekend… We’re competing in National League P.R.O. to prepare us, but also to get us back to Nationals. That’s the route that we’re focusing on.”

Lisa Gozley-Trumino, coach with 16U and 17U NY Surf Academy (NY-E), on the meaningful games…
“I think National League P.R.O. is one of the main targets of your season. We have this event and then we have the Arizona event that become really important on the road to Nationals. If you don’t succeed in these two events, then you have a little bit of a longer road because you have to win the league and then Regionals. So, certainly the focus is on getting the job done here and having that shorter road.”

Tyler Powell, coach of 16U FC Dallas 06 Premier West (TX-N), on the competitive level…
“These girls all have aspirations to play for colleges all across the country, so it’s good for them to see what the level of play is like from other places and it’s always good to play somebody you don’t see every day. All these teams have worked hard. I think any team out her can beat anybody based on my experience playing here and based on what I’m seeing so far. So, for us, it’s playing it game by game.”

National League P.R.O. will resume Jan. 7-10 when the 14U Boys and Girls teams play in their second event of the season at the ChampionsGate Sports Complex in Florida.
