Last year’s Region IV champion, Colorado Rush, will have to wait for a wild card berth to this year’s championship tournament, having succumbed to Real Colorado in the finals of the Colorado Youth Soccer State Championships. As a result, San Diego Surf Academy 00-01, the CalSouth National (state cup) champion, takes over the top spot in the Grande TeamRank Top 25.
CUP Gold 00-01 moves to No. 2 with a perfect record so far in the Midwest Regional League spring season, as well as an Ohio-S US Youth Soccer state championship under its belt in the last month.
As predicted last month, No. 2 Charlotte Soccer Academy’s prolific offense topped the 100 goal mark on May 11, allowing the squad to finish the season in first place, five points ahead of Concorde Fire. Concorde has plenty to be happy about, however, having finished its season with just two losses overall, both to the aforementioned team from Charlotte, and 27 points ahead of the next team in conference play. This extraordinary record allows Derek Leader’s squad to jump from No. 13 to No. 9 in the Grande TeamRank Top 25 heading into June’s post season play.
Slammers climbs two spots to No. 22 this month on the heels of a 6-0-2 record since our last update, including draws with No. 3 So Cal Blues and No. 18 West Coast FC. Slammers has the potential to finish conference play with just a single loss and one of the best conference records in the ECNL.
PDA earned a draw with No. 11 FC Stars of Massachusetts at the end of April, letting go of its hopes for a perfect season, but the New Jersey squad remains the only undefeated team in the ECNL at this age group, and retains its No. 1 ranking.
Crossfire Premier drops one spot this month to No. 12 after suffering its first two losses of the conference season to De Anza Force and Mustang SC the last weekend in April. In Crossfire’s defense, both losses occurred on a weekend when goalkeeper Anna Smith, defender Kai Henderson, as well as goal scorers Kelsey Turnbow and discovery player Jojo Harber were all away at U15 Women’s National Team camp. Despite the losses, Richard Reese’s Crossfire retained the top spot in the Northwest Conference to finish the regular season.
Next week: U16, U17, and U18 Boys
Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.
The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.
Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.
A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
