Tophat takes WAGS, rises at U13
Tophat 20 Gold travelled to Washington DC in mid-October to face competition from mid-Atlantic states and the Midwest. The Atlanta-based club earned five shutouts in five matches and came away with the Cup Flight championship trophy. Couple that with an 11-0-0 record in the Georgia Youth Soccer Athena A division and Tophat climbs from No. 16 to No. 11.
New to the rankings this month is a team with a perfect record in league play. Lake Forest Soccer Academy Girls Select out of Illinois has a 7-0-0 record in the Midwest Regional League’s PDQ West division, and has performed well at recent tournaments. Second in its group at WAGS, which featured No. 22 FC Virginia Pre-ECNL and New Jersey Wildcats Averbush, this team has shown it can withstand tough competition and debuts at No. 24.
Other teams considered for the top 25 at this age group include FC Portland 2001G Navy, and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite 01/02.
Topping the ECNL’s SoCal division is no easy feat, and remaining undefeated with such stiff competition is even tougher. Seth Trembly’s San Diego Surf has done both at this point in the season, and moves from No. 2 to No. 1 in the Grand Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25. If not for the offensive efforts of seventh grader Mia Fishel, however, the team might not be in such good stead. The U14 GNT striker leads the team with 11 goals and three assists, two of her goals coming in a 2-1 defeat on the road last weekend of last place and winless Las Vegas Premier.
New to the rankings is Orlando City (at No. 21), which leads the Southeast Conference with a 5-0-1 record. Orlando City has already taken care of the top half of the conference table, earning a draw against second place and No. 9 GSA and a win over No. 11 Concorde Fire, which currently sits in third.
So Cal Blues, the only active team in any ECNL age group with only one goal against this deep into the season (teams with more than five matches played) sits on top of the SoCal Division, and even though they eeked out a couple of draws in league play, deserves a bump from No. 2 to No. 1. San Diego Surf, whose only loss this season is to the No. 1 Blues, currently sits in third in the conference and climbs from No. 21 to No. 15.
Eclipse Select holds onto second place in the Midwest Conference and debuts at No. 25 with this update. Eclipse’s attack comes from practically every position on the field, with 10 different players scoring so far this season. Class of 2018 forward Amanda DiNardo leads the team with four goals.

Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.
The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.
Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.
A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
