State Cup, league championships provide changes at U13
The U13 age group has been busy in the month of May with regional leagues and U.S. Youth Soccer state cup play dominating the schedule for many teams. Several teams performed well in these highly regarded leagues and tournaments, resulting in a move up the TeamRank Top 25.
World Class FC 99, Liverpool FC 00 Elite, and Ponte Vedra Storm 99/00 Gold, all improved their ranking thanks to qualifying for US Youth Soccer regional competitions later this summer. World Class FC 99 climbed from #5 to #4 after claiming the Region I Premier League championship and earning a spot at the USYS Region I Championships in Rhode Island. Liverpool moved from #17 to #14 after claiming the USYS Texas-North state cup title with a nailbiting 2-1 final against #10 Solar Red 00. Liverpool will head to the USYS Region III Championships in Oklahoma along with Ponte Vedra Storm, who breezed through the Florida State Cup without conceding a goal.
#1 PDA O’Reilly ECNL remains unbeaten, but with a draw against FC Bucks on May 7, is no longer the sole perfect team at U14. The tie is hardly enough of a setback to drop them from the top spot, and PDA will remain the top seed going into the ECNL National Finals at the end of June.
Crossfire Premier continues its steady climb heading into its first ECNL postseason. With one conference game remaining against Washington Premier FC, Crossfire’s id2 standouts Mary Johnston and Kelsey Turnbow will look to finish the season ahead of Mustang SC and head to the ECNL National Finals.
Two teams from the state of Maryland, one competing in the ECNL, one competing in US Youth Soccer, move up the TeamRank Top 25 this month.
Freestate SA remains atop the ECNL Midatlantic Conference and climbs from #19 to #16 with this update, but their ranking could be in jeopardy when they face conference #2 and still undefeated FC Virginia after the PDA Showcase. With a win, #10 FCV could overtake Freestate and emerge as the conference champion on June 2, heading into the ECNL playoffs.
Montgomery SC Coyotes Green continues to dominate the US Youth Soccer side in the U15 age group, and climb from #16 to #19. Last year’s USYS National Champion has already qualified for the nationals this year via the US Youth Soccer National League. They didn’t rest on their laurels, however, and in the last month have clinched the Maryland State Cup and the Region I Premier League.
Next Thursday: U16, U17, and U18 Boys
TeamRank is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.
The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.
Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.
A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
