Labor Day highlighted by Indiana team’s win
Labor Day weekend marks for many an end of the summer season. In club soccer it’s really about the time the new season gets into high gear.
As a result, multiple youth soccer tournaments were held throughout the country. In the Dayton, Ohio, area the U14 Boys Carmel United squad coached by Joe Sochacki captured the 2010 Mead Cup Soccer Tournament title with a 2-1 victory over talented Cleveland-area side Concordia Royal.
However Cameron Lindley, Carmel United’s U14 Boys National Team player and central midfielder, came to the rescue and tied the game in the 48th minute off a rebound. Lindley completed his brace four minutes later when he put away a 25-yard cross.
“We played well and were able to keep the ball and crate scoring chances,” said U14 Caramel United Head Coach Joe Sochacki. “Cameron has been with us for a long time, he is almost like a coach out there on the field.”
The boys from Indiana strolled through the tournament undefeated, posting three shutouts including a 4-0 win over Dynamo FC in the semifinal game. As Carmel United took home the Mead Cup, several other teams celebrated in similar fashion, as this was a busy soccer holiday weekend.
