New faces at joint U17-U18 WNT camp
October 21, 2011
Two U.S. Youth National Team programs will come together this weekend when the U17 and U18 Women’s teams gather for a weeklong camp that begins on Sunday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
The U17s will be led by their new coach Albertin Montoya as they continue preparations for the 2012 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. The squad most recently got together in August when they played a pair of friendlies against Japan.

Strong performers included Toni Payne, Morgan Andrews, Summer Green and Emily Bruder – all of whom are back this weekend. On the U18s side, U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs has called up 30 players in their first meeting since June.
There are new faces for the U18s, including Freestate Soccer Alliance midfielder Riley Barger who is looking forward to showcase her skills during her first call-in.
“The opportunity to play with some of the best players in the nation is awesome,” Barger said. “I know (Albertson Fury star) Cari Roccaro – she is a really good friend, so I’m really excited to play with her.
“I think combining with the U17s is a great idea and it will make the team that much stronger and the level of play higher.”
Elk Grove Everton FC attacker Devlyn Jeter will also get her first taste of a national team camp, and said she fell off her couch when she found out she’d been invited.
“It's an experience I've been wanting my whole life and I'm so happy I finally have the chance to go,” she said. “I'll be in a competitive environment playing the sport I love. I couldn't ask for anything more. I'm really excited and can't wait to get down there to play!”
Some of the U18 veterans will include Bryane Heaberlin, Sophie Groff and Lindsey Horan.
