NorCal NPL Girls Showcase, Season ends
Last weekend marked another successful Girls Spring College Showcase in the NorCal NPL calendar. With Over 25 college coaches in attendance and 20 more watching games online at CoachesAid.com, they had the privilege of witnessing some of NorCal's top female talent battle it out for Winter titles. The showcase was not only host to the final games of winter season, but also the opening games of spring season for U15-U19.
Below is how the U15-U19 NorCal NPL divisions for the winter leagues participating in the Girls Spring Showcase finished with noticeable stand out performances.
U15 Girls Premier 1 Winter Division
Champions: Davis Legacy SC
2nd Place: Placer United Red
3rd Place: Sonoma County Alliance Black
Davis Legacy SC clinched the NorCal NPL Winter Title in style with a 5-0 win over Sacramento United. By winning the NorCal NPL Winter title, Davis Legacy clinched the 2013-14 NorCal NPL Championship by winning both the Fall and Winter League titles. Davis' Mia Root cored more goals than any other player this season in all age groups and brackets, netting 35 goals that surely was the difference between legacy and united.
U16 Girls Premier 1 Winter Division
Champions: Placer United Red
2nd Place: Davis Legacy Impact
Placer United Red took home the NorCal NPL Winter Championship with an impressive 4-0 victory over Ajax United Elite. With the win, Placer United positions themselves to qualify for the NPL National Finals if some results go their way this Spring. Jaylen Crim was a stand out leading goalscorer this season with 16 goals, but couldn’t drive Sacramento into the top three this year.
U17 Girls Premier 1 Winter Division
Champions: Marin FC Blue
2nd Place: American River FC Freedom
3rd Place: Cal Blues
After getting a crucial draw against 2nd place American River FC on Saturday, Marin FC Blue clinched the NorCal NPL Winter title with a 3-0 win over Davis Legacy SC on Sunday. By finishing in first place in the Winter, Marin FC Blue gave themselves a chance to claim the overall NorCal NPL Championship if things fall their way during the NorCal NPL Spring season. Though only grabbing third place, Kayla Collins of So Cal Blues scored an impressive 13 goals for the season.
U19 Girls Premier 1 Winter Division
Champions: Placer United Red
2ndPlace: Cal Blues Strikers
3rd Place: Ajax United Elite
Placer United waited until the final match day to clinch the NorCal NPL Winter League title. Following a 0-0 draw on Saturday against Ajax United, Placer United entered Sunday only needing a draw against FC Elk Grove to clinch first place. Goals by Bianca Tabuso (8th minute), Emily Hanson (27th minute) and Jessica Raybe (33rd minute) helped Placer clinch the Winter Championship with a 3-0 win over FC Elk Grove. Cal Blues finished in 2nd Place after a 2-0 win over Ajax United who finished in 3rd Place. By finishing as the NorCal NPL Fall and NorCal NPL Winter Champions, Placer United are the 2013-14 NorCal NPL Champions. Two Placer United girls hit double figures for the season with 11 goals each respectably; Jessica Raybe and Alexandria Jenkins.
