Pro Prospects: Tecos waiting on Colo. Teen
Marco Toscano is like any good forward – he saw an opportunity and he went for it.
When an email arrived in his inbox in January inviting him on trial in Mexico, Toscano checked out the details, and then he chased his dream.
“As soon as I saw the email, I immediately responded and called my dad and told him the news,” Toscano told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “I talked to Angel [Buitron] (an agent with United Sport Group who set up the trial in Mexico). He was a nice guy and he explained to me some details. My dad said, ‘yeah, go ahead and take the opportunity!’”
So that is just what the attacker from Real Colorado did – took the opportunity.
After a trial with Mexican club Estudiantes Tecos, Toscano finds himself with an offer to join the club in the coming months.
“Right now, I really don’t know when I’m going to sign,” Toscano said about his current status. “The coach at Estudiantes Tecos wanted me to stay over there and join the team, but I told him I would have to come back and talk to my parents and get things figured out.”
The target date for his signing is now March, as it gives Toscano the chance to finish his semester in high school and get things worked out before moving down to Mexico. The 16-year-old is still waiting to hear back from Buitron about finalizing the details for his signing.
Buitron, the agent, originally identified Toscano from his play in the USSF’s Development Academy with Real Colorado and at the scholastic level with Cherry Creek High School.
Toscano had 11 goals and five assists with Cherry Creek last season as a sophomore. The team finished the season with 17-1-0 as the best team in Colorado, and one of the top teams in the nation.
In the Academy this season, Toscano has five goals in 13 games. The Mexican-American teenager gives a ton of credit to Real Colorado for providing him with opportunities and trusting in him as a player.
“I'm also the captain of the U16 academy for Real which makes me work harder and harder every day,” Toscano said. “On and off the field, I try to be a role model for my teammates and work as hard as possible.”
U.S. U15 BNT mid Kyle Scott joins England
England U16 Boys National Team called up Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott last week for a friendly against Germany. Scott appeared with the U.S. U15 BNT last year in a camp at the Home Depot Center.
The game against Germany is relatively meaningless for his international future, but interest from the country where he resides and plays will likely add some second thoughts to accepting call ups from the U.S. in the future.
Scott is a very talented prospect with a good shot from distance and a keen ability to spot the open player.
