Pro Prospects: USYNT moves to Germany
There is another Pulisic in Dortmund.
Will Pulisic announced on Twitter on Monday that he has signed a contract with Borussia Dortmund. Will Pulisic joins his cousin, Christian Pulisic, at the German club.
Opposed to Christian though, Will has signed a one-year youth deal with the club. Will, a 2016 high school graduate, was scheduled to attend Duke in 2016, but he has put his collegiate plans on hold as he takes an extra year playing at the youth level.
Will Pulisic was the starting goalkeeper with the U.S. U17 Men’s National Team at the 2015 U17 World Cup in Chile. He started every game in goal at the event and conceded eight goals in the three games. He took over the job in goal the previous year and emerged as a solid option for the squad.
He started as one of the reserves at goalkeeper when the Residency Program began for the 1998 age group. During the course of his time in Florida, Will Pulisic took over the job as the starter and never relinquished that spot. Since his arrival on the scene with the U14 Boys National Team, he has improved greatly in his distribution and shot stopping. He still needs to improve on his position and communication, but Dortmund’s youth teams should provide the perfect platform for him to grow over the course of the next season.
Gonzo for Gaines
Will Pulisic was not the only player for the U.S. U17 Men’s World Cup Team to sign with a German club in the past week. Texas-native and speedy winger McKenzie Gaines said goodbye to UCLA and hello to Wolfsburg. Read Will Parchman’s piece on Gaines’ arrival in Germany.
Gaines and Pulisic will have some company this week when Haji Wright’s deal becomes official when he turns 18 years old on March 27 and can officially join Schalke.
CCV Shut Down
Tottenham has shutdown American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers for the rest of the season. The 17-year-old has been dealing with a back issue, according to a report from ESPN FC.
Carter-Vickers recently made the bench for Tottenham in the Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund. The teenager likely would have featured with the U.S. U23 Men’s National Team during this week’s qualifying playoff, but the injury kept him off the squad.
