Region I Final pairings set

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. – Teams fought hard in the semifinal matches of the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships in West Virginia and the final schedule has been named.
The Barboursville Soccer Complex, Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center and Scott Orthopedic Center, South Point and Schoenbaum were used for today's matches. The final matches will be played tomorrow at the Barboursville Soccer Complex.
The Under-17 Girls PDA Fire (NJ) play Eastern New York's Albertson 91 Fury at 10 a.m. The PDA Fire are playing for their third US Youth Soccer Region I Championship title in a row.
Also, the Under-19 Boys Baltimore Casa Mia Bays (MD) have a strong history in the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. In 2006, the Bays won the US Youth Soccer National Championship and in 2007 they won the US Youth Soccer Region I Championship. Tomorrow, they play for the opportunity to advance to the National Championships and play for the oldest youth soccer trophy, the Under-19 Boys McGuire Cup.
Regional winners of the Under-14 through Under-19 age groups earn a berth to the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships to be played July 21-26, at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, Mass.
The James P. McGuire Cup is the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships. The Under-19 Boys age group as the National Champion will hoist the McGuire Cup. This is the 74th anniversary of the storied cup.
Under-14 Girls
PDA (NJ) is sending two girls teams to the Region I Championship finals tomorrow and a PDA boy's team is playing for their spot this evening. The Under-14 Girls PDA Celtic won their semifinal match again Pennsylvania West's North United Fire, 1-0.
After five semifinal goals, the Scorpions SC (MA) advance to the finals. Bridget Conway started the match with a goal in the 3rd minute for the Scorpions. Ten minutes later, the VSA Heat Blue (VA) countered with an Alexa Wagoner goal. Two other goals would keep the teams tied at 2-2 at the half. Mckenzie Meehan scored two in the second and Lauren Berman chipped one over the keeper's head sending the Scorpions to the finals with a 5-2 win over the Heat.
Under-14 Boys
Dix Hills Thunder (E-NY) scored two last minute goals sending their Under-14 Boys semifinal game against the FC Delco Cannibals into a scoreless overtime and then penalty kicks. It would take six kicks and a save by Jordan Gross for the Thunder to capture the win. Tomorrow, they play to defend their regional title.
Tab Ramos, former U.S. National Team player and Olympian, coached last year's Under-14 Boys National Champions and is back in the Region I Championship finals again tomorrow. His NJSA 04 United (NJ) team won today's semifinal match against Beadling (PA-W) 2-0. Ethan Decker scored NJSA's first goal in the 34th minute and Nigel Joseph put the United up by two, scoring in the 69th minute.
Under-16 Boys
Virginia's Under-16 Boys MPS McLean Hurricanes scored all three of their goals in the first 31 minutes of their match against Delaware United FC Blizzard. Kevin Reitzel scored early in the 4th minute. Five minutes later, Adam Goodison found the back of the net putting the Hurricanes up by two. Before the end of the half, Stephen Palmer tallied another. Delaware's Bryan Tiller scored in the 80th minute, but it wasn't enough and the Hurricanes advance to play the Hicksville Strikers (E-NY) in the finals.
Eastern New York's Hicksville Strikers' Johnnie Maleganos' goal in the 5th minute put the Synergy on their heels. Colin Heffron extended the Strikers' lead to two in the 34th minute. The Synergy kept pushing and in the 73rd minute Elia Louis scored. The Strikers' advance to the finals after their 2-1 win.
Under-19 Boys
Baltimore Casa Mia Bays (MD) are back in the championships final after a 1-0 win over the Boston Bolts (MA). The Under-19 Boys are already looking forward to their goal of winning the oldest youth soccer trophy, the McGuire Cup at the National Championships. They have a strong history in the Series, in 2006, the Bays won the National Championship and they won the Region I Championships in 2007.
Under-19 Boys FC Delco Blast (E-PA) earned a spot in tomorrow's final against the Bays at the Barboursville Soccer Complex. This afternoon, Delco went 1-0 against Yonkers United Tornados from Eastern New York. In tomorrow's final, Delco will be met by a very familiar opponent in the Baltimore Casa Mia Bays.
