FRISCO, Texas – Teams and sidelines erupted after Wednesday's victories. Winners were crowned US Youth Soccer Region III Champions and have earned a berth to the US Youth Soccer National Championship July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass., at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park.

Teams from North or South Carolina collected titles in five of the six boys' age groups and will now advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. On the girls' sides, teams from six different states won championships and will now head to Lancaster, Mass., next month with national championship aspirations.

Under-14 Girls
CASL Spartans Elite Black (NC) got all the scoring they needed from Joanna Boyles in a 2-0 win over Hurricane FC 95 Rhein (OK) in the Under-14 Girls final. Bronson scored first in the 17th minute and added a second tally in the 54th to propel CASL to the Region III title.
 
Under-14 Boys
Dallas Texans 95 Red (N-TX) and CASL Elite (NC) played scoreless soccer through 70 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime to force their Under-14 Boys final into penalty kicks. In the deciding phase, CASL prevailed 3-1 from the mark. CASL will represent Region III in both the boys and girls division at the National Championships.
 
Under-15 Girls
In the Under-15 Girls final, Dallas Texans 94 Red (TX-N) scored twice in overtime to hand NASA Elite II (GA) a 3-1 defeat. NASA went ahead in the 29th minute when Iyanna Moore scored. Texans' Brooke Herrick answered in the 33rd minute and things remained tied through the balance of regulation. Then, the Texans exploded for two goals. The first came from Kelsey Shimmick in the 98th minute and the final one from Mary Alissa Lonsberry in the 106th minute.

Under-15 Boys
Just when it looked like the Under-15 Boys final between SCSA 93 Gold (NC) and Tulsa Soccer Club 94 Black (OK) might head to penalty kicks, SCSA's James Calvert had other ideas. Calvert scored about five minutes into the first extra period, a tally that held up for the duration as SCSA claimed a 1-0 win and a trip to nationals. The SCSA 93 Gold are back-to-back Region III Champions.

Under-16 Girls
Ponte Vedra Storm (FL) completed their run through the Under-16 Girls age group of the Region III Championships with a 2-0 win over GSA Phoenix 93 Red (GA) in Wednesday's final. Ponte Vedra got a pair of goals from Theresa Diederich in the win. Her first tally came 17 minutes in and her second was in the 63rd minute.
 
Under-16 Boys
CESA 92 Premier (SC) waited until there was less than 10 minutes remaining in their Under-16 Boys final with Dallas Texans 93 Red (N-TX) to find the back of the net. However, Ricardo Garbanzo didn't just put CESA ahead with one goal, he gave them some extra breathing room by adding a second. Garbanzo's first goal was in the 81st minute and his second came two minutes later. CESA beat the defending Region III champions, 2-0.
 
Under-17 Girls
In the Under-17 Girls final, GSA Phoenix 92 (GA) got two goals from Nicole Locandro in a 3-2 victory over AFC Lightning 92 White (GA). Lightning took the lead when Amanda McCalla scored in the 45th but Locandro answered four minutes later with the first of her two goals in the final. GSA's Alexa Newfield made it 2-1 in the 51st but Katrina Frost of Lightning tied things up in the 74th. Then, just before the final whistle, Locandro found the back of the net again, effectively clinching the championship for GSA Phoenix 92.
 
Under-17 Boys
The Under-17 Boys final was scoreless for the opening 40 minutes until an own goal by Triangle United (NC) gave Lonestar 92B Red (S-TX) an early edge in the 41st minute before Triangle's Ezra Ntirugelegwa tied things up just before halftime. In the 52nd minute, Justin Franz put Lonestar ahead once again, but 10 minutes later, Triangle answered when Sebastian Garner scored the first of his two goals. A Cristian Alphonso goal in the 74th added to Triangle's edge and Garner's second tally in the 88th minute ended the day's scoring.
 
Under-18 Girls
Edmond ESC 91 Black (OK) and long time rival and defending Under-18 Girls National Champions Dallas Texans 91 Red (N-TX) played scoreless soccer for 127 minutes. ESC broke the deadlock when Calli Cooper scored in the 128th minute off of a free kick and held on for a 1-0 overtime victory to clinch a trip to the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships in July.
 
Under-18 Boys
Enzo Martinez found the back of the net twice for DSC 90 Green (SC) in their 5-1 victory over 91 Norcross Fury Gold (GA) in the Under-18 Boys final. Martinez first scored in the 48th minute and added a second goal in the 83rd for DSC, who also got goals from George Khoury, Andrew Gorospe and Ralph Lundy.
 
Under-19 Girls
BUSA 90 (AL) got a 38th minute goal from Alexandra Russell in their Under-19 Girls final with D'Feeters 90 (N-TX). That tally proved deciding in BUSA's 1-0 victory. Alabama has never won a US Youth Soccer National Championship in either boys or girls. In their last year of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, BUSA looks to create history.

Under-19 Boys
The Under-19 Boys final came down to penalty kicks after Dallas Texans Houston 90 Red (TX-S) and NASA 08 Elite (GA) finished regulation and overtime tied 2-2. Luis Busto put Texans ahead in the 27th minute but Russell Thompson answered for NASA in the 44thminute. Texans took a 2-1 lead when Christopher Deaville found the back of the net in the 65th minute. However, 20 minutes later, Mark Lavery drew things level for NASA. It took 10 kicks by each team to reach a final verdict, but NASA prevailed 10-9.

The James P. McGuire Cup is the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships. The Under-19 Boys age group as the National Champion will hoist the McGuire Cup. This is the 74th anniversary of the storied cup.
