Taylor Suarez, in truth, could have had a shot on goal herself. After intercepting a pass from Mexico keeper Carmen Lopez, the winger had a momentary opportunity to bag a goal.

But she didn’t. Instead, Suarez made the extra pass, poking the ball to a waiting Melina Rebimbas, who smoothly evaded a defender before finding the bottom corner to grab a 2-1 lead with less than 15 minutes to play — one they wouldn’t relinquish.

It was emblematic of the U17 WNT’s attacking setup at the Concacaf Cup. Here was a team willing to work the ball around, find the extra pass, create more space. And that style, that unselfish set up, that ultimately carried the U17s to a Concacaf Cup win.
