San Diego Surf players ranked one-two
January 18, 2011
The Southern California region of Players To Watch has a defensive duo ranked at the top spots for the 2012 Class.
San Diego Surf’s own Laura Liedle and Maya Theuer are ranked #1 and #2, and have helped Surf’s back line to several championships.
Maya is the center back and leader of the team. She excels in her organization and is a standout leader. Playing alongside of her, Laura, a full back, has the strong ability to join the attack and carry the ball into the opponent’s half of the field. She is also left-footed which makes her very versatile.
Both players have had their skills rewarded by being called up for U.S. National Team training camp.
“I think it’s great when they bring that experience back to the club,” Chesters said. “They don’t have the attitude to say that this is beneath them, but come back invigorated to share those experiences. It raises the bar for the club.”
For the rest of the Players To Watch Southern California region, Kylie McCarthy and Lauren Bohaboy lead the class of 2011.
Amber Munerlyn sits atop the 2013 class. Arsenal FC’s defender Annia Mejia ranks #1 while Indigo Gibson leaped to the top five in the 2014 class.
