Santa Clara reaches Dallas Cup U17 semis
FRISCO, TEXAS - Santa Clara Sporting and West Side Metro Premier faced off on Friday afternoon at Pizza Hut Park playing for a berth in the U17 age group semifinals and it was the California side coming out on top with an emphatic 4-0 victory.
West Side Metro of Oregon had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the first half as Luis Orendain-Holquin handled a cross in the box giving Metro a penalty. Taro Kyllonen would come up huge in goal for Sporting, however, saving Clark Phillips penalty low to his left side.
Dribbling down the right side, Borges lofted a ball into the wind, playing it perfectly to land the ball right on the feet of Julian DelToro who made no mistake with his right foot to double the lead in the 37th minute.
It was 3-0 to Sporting just a few minutes later in the 42nd minute as Borges scored his second of the day. Edrey Valencia played a through ball misplayed by Yanphol Patino allowing Borges in on goal and his shot found the net.
From there, Sporting cruised to victory with Julian DelToro grabbing a late goal to make things 4-0. They’ll have a tough challenge in the semifinal on Saturday morning where they’ll face Brasilis FC of Brazil. On the other half of the international bracket, Tigres of Mexico will face LD Alajuelense of Costa Rica.
